Abies balsamea
Balsam fir

The slow-growing balsam fir makes a good specimen tree due to its low maintenance and bold formal conical habit. Unfortunately, it is not a tree of choice in the Midwest due to its limiting cultural requirements.

Habit:Dense, narrow conical evergreen with whorled branches, a formal outline, and a straight central leader
Size:45-70' high and 20-25' wide
Color:Light green in spring, but dark green in remaining seasons
Texture:Fine
Hardiness:Zone 3a USDA
Habitat:West Virginia - Iowa - Minnesota - Alberta
Family:Pinaceae
