Acer rubrum
Red maple

Red maples are excellent shade trees for lawns, parks and streets, with many cultivars selected for brilliant red and orange fall color. However, they do not perform well in areas with alkaline soils.

Habit:Pyramidal in youth, becoming uniform oval to rounded
Size:40-60' high
Color:Medium to medium-dark green in summer
Texture:Medium
Hardiness:Zone 3b USDA -- because it is native from southern Florida north into Canada, hardiness will vary; a tree from a seed source in the South cannot be expected to do well in the North
Habitat:U.S. and Canada
Family:Aceraceae
