Sugar maple

Making an outstanding native shade tree, sugar maples are known for their fall color and historic ability to serve as the source of maple syrup. The American Indians originally taught the settlers how to make the syrup. Although incredibly shade tolerant in youth, Sugar maples are not well-adapted to adverse conditions or urban sites.
