Common smoketree

A large multi-stemmed and leggy shrub named for its billowy smoke-like puffs of inflorescence comprised of sterile pedicels covered with greenish or purplish hairs.

Habit:Oval to rounded, leggy, irregular and multi-stemmed
Size:10-15' high
Color:Dark green to bluish green accented with light green to brownish green inflorescence for the species and maroon-purple foliage and inflorescence for some of the cultivars
Texture:Medium in leaf, medium-coarse in winter
Hardiness:Zone 5a USDA
Habitat:Native from Europe to China including the Himalayan Mountains
