Hibiscus syriacus
Rose-of-sharon

Almost the only reason for growing this plant, the perfect, 5-petaled flowers are large and moderately showy with a wide range of colors, white to red or purple and any combination in-between. They can be single or double, flowering in July through September. Numerous cultivar selections have been made for differences in petal form and color and accent colors within the petals. The flowers are usually 5-petaled and 2-4" long. The stamens are united into a long and distinctive single central column that surrounds the pistil.
