Mahonia aquifolium
Oregon grapeholly

Bright yellow, slightly fragrant and moderately effective, the 1/4 - 1/3" flowers are borne in 3" clusters at the ends of the branches above the foliage in late April (central Illinois). The bright yellow color contrasts nicely with the dark green foliage. The individual flowers are cup-shaped with 6 petals surrounding a green style.
