Black gum,Black tupelo

Very attractive all season long, the alternate leaves are extremely lustrous. They are simple and elliptic to slightly obovate or ovate, ranging from 3-6" in length and half as wide, with an acute apex and rounded to cuneate base. The new leaves emerge a bronzy purple.
