Picea pungens
Colorado spruce

Culture: Prefers fertile, moist soil in full sun, and tolerates dry conditions better than other Picea species. In general, it is a very adaptable plant.

Subject to spruce gall aphid, spruce budworm, spider mite, bagworms, cankers, needle casts, needle rust, and wood decay.

Usage: Although this plant has been heavily over-planted, there are many interesting cultivars that make striking blue accents to the garden. Because of there bold appearance, they are almost always used as specimen plants. There are also dwarf shrub-like forms and pendulous forms that provide additional uses.
