Pyrus calleryana 'Bradford'
Bradford callery pear

This popular cultivar was once lauded as the "wonder tree" for all seasons. Its uniform pyramidal habit, glossy foliage, showy flowers, excellent fall color, and resistance to fireblight certainly lend it merit, but its narrow branch angles and weak wood make it susceptible to ice damage, which becomes all the more noticeable due to the uniformity of its form. Many newer cultivars are probably better suited for landscape use, such as 'Chanticleer' or 'Earlyred'.

Habit:Pyramidal, very uniform and dense
Size:30-50' high
Color:Glossy dark green in summer, changing to orange-scarlet or purple in autumn
Texture:Medium-fine
Hardiness:Zone 5a USDA
