Evergreen, flat and 1/2 to 1" long, the horizontally arranged needles occur in 2 lateral sets spreading upward with apices blunt or slightly notched. The upper surface is a shiny dark green with two faint gray bands of stomata below. The leaves give off a pleasant "balsamic" odor when bruised.
