| Aesculus x carnea Red horsechestnutCulture: Moist, well-drained soil in full to partial sun is best for this species. Leaf blotch can be a problem, but is usually not severe, as this plant will often be doing well when Aesculus hippocastanum is already looking ratty in late summer. Usage: This is definitely a better choice for the landscape than Aesculus hippocastanum or even Aesculus pavia because of its increased blotch resistance. It is best used in parks and other large-scale sites, as the coarseness of the plant and its size will overwhelm small areas. |
