Aesculus parviflora
Bottlebrush buckeye

Culture: This species tolerates full sun to shade very well and prefers well-drained soils high in organic matter. Plants continue to gradually widen over time if suckers from the base are allowed to remain.

There are no serious pests or diseases. This species is free of the blotch, mildew and scorch problems that affect some of the related tree species.

Usage: This is an excellent summer flowering species, since little else flowers as prolifically in sun or shade. In winter, the dried flower stalks add slight interest when protruding above the snowline. Care must be taken when used, since the suckering habit of this plant often makes it expand past its intended bounds.
