Betula populifolia
Gray birch

Thin and very rough, the stems are grayish or reddish brown with warty resinous exudations. Gray birch has stems that are rougher than those of paper and European white birch and equally rough as Whitespire gray birch. Solitary male catkins are found at the end of the stems in autumn.
