| Carya illinoinensis PecanCulture: Pecans are lovers of deep, well-drained, moist soils, and are extremely difficult to transplant due to the presence of a long taproot. Commercial growers often go to great lengths to transplant trees. Typically only small specimens are transplanted. There are a number of nuisance insect and disease problems that affect pecans. For this reason it is not often used as a landscape shade tree. Usage: Because of insect and disease problems and the high maintenance required to keep pecans, they are probably best-suited for use in native habitats, wildlife shelters, or in fruit production areas. |
