The alternate, pinnately compound leaves are 12-24" long with 7 (5-9 possible) oblong-lanceolate 4-8" leaflets. The edges of the leaflets are serrate, terminating in an acuminate apex, and are pubescent on the underside. The rachis usually persists through the winter months, long after the leaflets have fallen.
