Northern catalpaCulture: Catalpa is adaptable to many soil conditions, withstanding wet or dry soils and alkaline or acidic pH. It is a tough plant that can be grown in either sun or part shade. Several insects and diseases can be a problem on catalpa but most do not seriously impact plant heath. The diseases likely to attack are leaf spots, powdery mildew, and Verticillium wilt. Usage: Catalpa is attractive in bloom and adaptable but the coarse texture limits its use in the modern landscape. It is best in parks, golf courses and campuses. It can be very effectively used in masses. |
