Corylus colurna
Turkish filbert

Culture: Similar to other plants in the birch family, it is best to transplant in the spring. Once established, it does very well under extreme conditions. It is pH adaptable and tolerates hot, dry sites. Turkish filbert is not widely known but is a useful tree.

No serious pest problems; but some stem dieback has occurred on parkway trees in the Chicago area.

Usage: It is not easy to find this attractive plant. It has few pest problems, is very adaptable and should be used more. It is useful for street tree plantings, and wherever a medium-sized shade tree is desired.
