Cornus mas
Corneliancherry dogwood

Bright cherry red, the glossy elliptical drupes, are 5/8 - 3/4" long and are borne in July. The fruits are somewhat hidden by the foliage. Produced in large numbers the fruit can make quite a mess as they drop on to patio and sidewalk surfaces. Although edible, the drupes are quite sour but they are attractive to birds.
