Cotinus coggygria
Common smoketree

Culture: The Common Smoketree is a very adaptable plant, tolerating a range of soil pH, moisture and textures. It performs best in sunny well drained soils.

Verticillium wilt can be a problem, however, this species is generally fairly trouble-free.

Usage: Can be used nicely in mass but is often grown as a specimen where it tends to be a loner in the landscape. It also provides good screening. The purple leaved selections are often cut to the ground in the winter resulting in a more uniform plant that is full and dense to the ground.
