Crataegus nitida
Glossy hawthorn

Culture: This native drought and pollution resistant species prefers well-drained, moist, slightly acid to alkaline soils ranging from heavy clay to moderately coarse sand.

Fireblight and rusts can be problematic with this species, as can various borers and mites.

Usage: This plant has many positive characteristics which are only countered by its poor disease resistance. For this reason, it is best used in native restorations. If time and energy are freely expendable, this tree can make an excellent specimen if kept fungus and insect free.
