Elaeagnus angustifolia Russian oliveCulture: Russian-olive is easy to transplant and grow. It will withstand drought, salt and alkaline soils. Verticillium wilt and cankers usually destroy this plant. It is no longer commonly sold or grown in the Midwest. In the dry western states, it is widely used in the landscape where these diseases are less of a problem. Usage: The attractive gray foliage made this a common Midwestern landscape plant in the 1960's. It was grown as a landscape plant for its silvery gray foliage and along roadsides for its salt tolerance. In moist climates, Verticillium wilt and cankers devastate this species. |
