Fagus sylvatica
European beech

Smooth, medium-light gray in color, slightly darker and more wrinkly at lateral branches than Fagus grandifolia, the beautiful bark of this species has an elephant-hide-like appearance. It is most wrinkly in appearance at lateral branch points and is generally more wrinkly than the bark of Fagus grandifolia.
