Fagus sylvatica
European beech

Culture: More adaptable to a variety of soil conditions than Fagus grandifolia, this species is still relatively sensitive to abuse. It is difficult to grow turf below this species due to low branching, therefore it is best grown with an organic mulch.

It has few insect and disease problems.

Usage: European beech is an excellent high quality tree for landscape use. There are many cultivars available from weeping to fastigate forms and ones with variegated or colored leaves.
