Fothergilla gardenii
Dwarf fothergilla

Culture: This species prefers well-drained, moist, acid, peaty soils, and full sun to part shade. Provided adequate soil moisture and at least neutral pH is provided, this plant is easy to cultivate. This species is usually transplanted B&B or from containers.

No important insect or diseases have been reported, but rabbits love this plant.

Usage: This is an excellent plant for the landscape because of its compact growth habit, attractive spring flowers, clean, dark green foliage and beautiful fall color. It fits well in foundation plantings and perennial beds or any place a quality plant is desired. 'Blue Mist' is an interesting cultivar with bluish green summer foliage but the fall color is not as vibrant as the species.
