Hippophae rhamnoides Common seabuckthornCulture: Seabuckthorn is slow to establish and it does best in poor sandy soils. It prefers full sun and will tolerate salt and alkaline soils. It grows best in the drier areas of the western states. No serious pest problems occur on this species. Usage: This plant is not used much and does not do well in Illinois soils. It has attractive fruit and is pest free and salt tolerant but is best grown in drier soils. Montreal Botanic Gardens has several nice specimens. |
