| Juniperus communis Common juniperCulture: Very adaptable to diverse soil and climatic conditions, this species grows on the worst possible sites. It tolerates acid or alkaline sites, drought, wind and infertile conditions. It transplants readily. Susceptible to juniper blight and other problems mentioned for junipers. Usage: Useful as a groundcover for sandy soils and infertile sites, but is not as ornamentally significant as other juniper species. It is useful as an evergreen groundcover in native restorations. The cones from this species can be distilled as a source of gin. |
