Most selections have a preponderance of juvenile foliage, 1/4" long in whorls of three that are loosely appressed and pointing towards the sharp-pointed apex. They are pungent and bluish-white above, but dark green with glaucous bands (similar to Juniprus chinensis procumbens below). The leaves turn purplish in the winter.
