| Juniperus virginiana Eastern redcedarThe evergreen leaves can either be juvenile (awl-shaped) or adult (scale-like). The scale-like leaves are 1/16 - 1/20" long, formed into 1/2 - 3/4" very narrow branchlets, four-ranked, becoming free at the apex and appearing finer in texture than Juniperus chinensis. The green, awl-shaped foliage is 1/4" long and spiny, becoming glaucous above. The ratio of juvenile versus adult foliage is variable, although shaded parts tend to be more juvenile. |
