Maclura pomifera 'Wichita'

Maclura pomifera 'Wichita'
Wichita osage-orange

This is a nearly thornless cultivar that is classified under the var. inermis, but exhibits at least a few thorns. This selection was introduced by the late John Pair of Kansas, a great plantsman, after trials of many forms. Dirr comments on the uniformity of the crown, stating that it is "better than the Bradford Pear".
