| Malus x 'Donald Wyman' Donald Wyman flowering crabappleCulture: Unfortunately the disease resistance has been variable on this selection. Initially thought to be very resistant; however, Jeff Iles, Iowa State University, reported significant problems with apple scab in 1998 and 1999. Usage: This selection was on many recommended lists because of its initial disease resistance. It was popular for its heavy displays of flowers and its very persistent glossy red fruits. Recent reports of scab susceptibility should temper large-scale use of this selection until further research is reported. |
