Parthenocissus tricuspidata
Boston ivy

Culture: Similar to that of Parthenocissus quinquefolia, this species can be grown from full sun to heavy shade in either poor or good soils. Continuing pruning is required when grown on buildings to keep the vine off of windows and out of gutters and window air conditioners. Once attached to a structure, it does not readily come off, causing some maintenance concerns in terms of being able to work on the underlying wall.

The few insect disease problems that occur on this species rarely cause any noticeable problems. It is a very trouble-free plant.

Usage: This vine makes an excellent wall cover. The consistent angle at which leaves are held, makes for a very uniform wall cover. This vine also looks finer in texture from a distance as compared to Parthenocissus quinquefolia because of the uniform spacing and angle of the leaves and the lack of dark pockets of shadow cast by the foliage. This species is not commonly used as a ground cover.
