Pinus aristata
Bristlecone pine

The 3/4 - 1 1/2" long evergreen needles are dark bluish green and conspicuously dotted with white resinous exudations (often mistaken for scale). Persisting for 12-17 years, the needles are entire and are bunched tightly toward the stem ends with 5 needles per fascicle. The leaf sheaths are split, curled back and persistent for 2-3 years. Each fascicle of 5 needles tends to stay fairly tightly bunched and separated from adjacent fasicles.
