Pinus wallichiana
Himalayan mountain pine

Culture: The Himalayan pine prefers a sandy, well drained, acidic loam in a sheltered location with full sun, and tolerates pollutants better than most conifers. Depending on the seed source, low temperatures (usually below -26 C or -15 F), especially if accompanied by severe winter winds will cause needle browning. It is a difficult species to transplant, so use of smaller specimens is advised.

This species has few insect problems, although cankers, needle casts and tip blight may cause some difficulties.

Usage: Excellent specimen plant for large protected areas.
