Populus alba 'Pyramidalis'
Pyramdial white poplar

Culture: The Bolleana poplar is sometimes used as a replacement for the Lombardy black poplar because the former is not as susceptible to the Dothichiza canker that kills Populus nigra 'Italica'. However, it should still be viewed as a reasonably short-lived plant with a number of insect and disease problems.

Usage: Useful primarily for its relatively narrow columnar-fastigiate habit of youth and its attractive white bark to define property lines or to form a narrow screen. As it matures however, the considerable widening that occurs often makes this selection too wide for the intended purpose.
