Quercus robur
English oak

The 3/16" buds are fat, broad ovate, imbricate, reddish brown and angled. The margins of the scales are fringed with grayish tan hairs. The wide buds distinguish this species from other common oaks. The buds are longer and distinctly wider than those of Quercus alba.
