It has moderate transplantability and specimens of 4-6" caliper can be transplanted with good success. This species has a moderately fast growth rate. The most serious problem on this species is oak wilt, which is most likely to be a problem in large native stands where the disease can spread plant to plant. It is not often encountered in landscape situations. For the most part, this species has few insect and disease problems. Usage: The Red oak makes an excellent large shade tree for large landscapes, parks, golf courses and is a common street tree. The combination of its transplantability, clean foliage, good fall color and fast growth rate in youth, makes this a popular choice. |
