Thuja occidentalis
Eastern arborvitae

The dark green foliage is composed of adult scale-like leaves that are 1/8" long, abruptly pointed and borne in flattened compressed branchlets that are horizontally borne. The thick waxy foliage is a glossy dark green and bears small glandular bumps. When bruised, the leaves emit a distinctive sweet odor that smells like the flowers of a tansy plant.
