Wisteria floribunda
Japanese wisteria

Culture: Some people have difficulty transplanting this species. Deep, moist, well-drained soils are best, preferably with a slightly high pH. Lots of effort must be made to bring a plant into flower, including fertilization with low nitrogen and high phosphorous content fertilizers, a sunny location, mild winters, and above all else, a plant at least 7 years old.

There are few significant problems with this species.

Usage: In areas hardy enought to support this species, the japanese wisteria makes an excellent screening vine due to its dense form. Care must be taken when growing this plant over a trellis or arbor, as wisterias tend to exhibit lots of force and could damage weaker frames.
