| Acer miyabei Miyabe mapleCulture: Although not widely planted, this species appears to be adaptable and pest free.Usage: This adaptable species really deserves to be used more often in the landscape. Although it doesn't have outstanding ornamental qualities, the clean foliage and attractive habit make it an ideal plant to soften building corners or along shrub borders, either singularly or en masse. Its greater cold hardiness makes it more useful than A. campestre in northern climates. Beautiful specimens can be found at the Morton Arboretum and the Chicago Botanic Gardens. A selection of the species ('Morton' = State Street-TM) with a particularly attractive wide branching pattern has been made and introduced by Chicagoland Grows Inc. |
