Acer rubrum
Red maple

Culture: Red maples are easily transplanted however, they prefer acid and moist conditions. Because they readily show manganese deficiency or chlorosis at high pH levels, placement near alkaline sources such as gravel drives, concrete structures, or sidewalks should be avoided. They also tend to exhibit low pollution tolerance.

Leaf hoppers and borers can cause damage.

Usage: Growth on this species is moderate and not as fast as silver maple, resulting in a tree with a stronger lateral structure. It is an excellent specimen for lawns and parks, providing interesting young bark and, with the appropriate cultivar, a possibility of outstanding fall coloration.
