Acer truncatum
Purpleblow maple

The small, 2-4" long and 3-5" wide leaves are opposite, simple, and 5-lobed with either a truncate base or 2 small additional lobes that point backward. Each acuminate lobe has undulate and slightly bumpy margins. A milky sap exudes from the petiole and leaf scars in early to mid season. The new leaves are an attractive purple as they emerge.
