An unusual, large, coarse-textured, suckering shrub or small to medium tree with huge bi- or tripinnately compound leaves and heavily prickled stems.

Habit:A large broad-rounded large shrub to medium tree with coarse erect stems, suckering to form thickets
Size:10 to 20' high, possibly to 40'
Color:Medium to dark green
Texture:Medium-fine in leaf and coarse in winter
Hardiness:Zone 4b USDA
Habitat:Pennsylvania - Florida - Illinois
