Berberis thunbergii
Japanese barberry

Alternate, spatulate and entire, the obovate leaves are small, ranging from 1/2 to 1 1/4" long. A range of leaf sizes is typical on most branches. They are cuneate to rarely acute at the base and are narrowed into a very short petiole. As in most barberries, multiple leaves are borne on each small spur.
