Kousa dogwood

The 1/4"-long flower buds located at the terminals are bulbous at the base with two valvate silky appressed pubescent bud scales forming a sharp acuminate apex. The 3/16" vegetative buds are valvate, appressed, gradually tapering to a point and brownish black.
