Crataegus crus-galli
Cockspur hawthorn

The 1/2" 5-petalled white flowers have pink anthers and appear in showy flat-topped corymbs in mid-May. Because the flat side is always upward, the flowers accentuate the horizontality of the branching. Despite their nice appearance, the flowers exude a disagreeable odor, and for this reason are best kept away from open windows or front porches.
