Fothergilla gardenii
Dwarf fothergilla

Terminal flower buds are large, ovate, pubescent and dirty gray brown. The buds tend to be stalked and oblique with 2 caducous (falling early) scales along-side the buds. The 1/4"-long terminal flower buds are accompanied by a naked foliose vegetative bud which extends in a curved fashion beyond the terminal portion of the flower bud.
