Hydrangea arborescens

Hydrangea arborescens
Smooth hydrangea

Always showing a tendency to grow slightly crooked, the gray-tan to brown stems are glabrous, with older stems slightly exfoliating or stringy. The stems are very light in weight due to the large diameter white Styrofoam-like pith. The young stems are often somewhat herbaceous near the tip. The dried inflorescence persists at the ends of the stems through the winter season.
