Japanese holly

Small, dioecious, and dull white, the 1/4" flowers bear 4 small white petals. The non-showy flowers appear from May to June in the leaf axils of the current season's growth. Female flowers will have a green pistil in the center and reduced stamens, whereas the male flowers lack the pistil and have well developed stamens.
