Ilex verticillata
Common winterberry

Often producing a fantastic display, the fruits of this species are 1/4" bright red drupes borne in pairs on female plants from August/September through June. In colder climates, fruits often drop in January. The fruit display is tremendous against a snow display. Birds enjoy eating the fruit of this species, of which there are many yellow orange cultivars available.
