| Juniperus sabina Savin juniperCulture: Performs well on limestone with well-drained and dry soils. It prefers open, sunny exposures, and tolerates urban environments. This species' susceptiblility to juniper blight is apparently variable and dependent on the cultivar. Selection of resistant cultivars greatly reduces disease problems. However, juniper scale, midge, and twig girdler may occur. Usage: The straight species is not used very often in landscape situations; the cultivars, however are quite ornamental and in high use. They are best sited as groundcovers, foundation plants, or in mass plantings. |
